Omega-3 fatty acids are essential polyunsaturated fats, meaning that our body needs them but does not produce them. This means that we must get them from either food or supplementation. Since the majority of Americans do not consume enough foods (fish, nuts, flax seeds) that are high in Omega-3s, we need to supplement our diet with concentrated oils containing these EFA’s.

There are 3 main types of Omega-3s: Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). EPA and DHA are most commonly found in fish, and are the most crucial to maintaining a healthy mind and body.

ALA is readily available in foods such as flax seeds, chia seeds, and hemp seeds. However, although ALA can be transformed into EPA and DHA once consumed, it’s conversion rate is rather low.

EPA and DHA are long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, and are the biologically active form of ALA. So, while ALA can be useful, going straight to the source of EPA and DHA is more beneficial for your health. These are most readily available in fish, and can supplemented in larger doses with fish oil.

Omega-3s EPA and DHA can help support the healthy functions of the heart, brain, joints, and eyes. Findings have shown that Omega-3s may also lower blood pressure, reduce triglycerides, slow plaque development in arteries, lower the chance of heart disease, and decrease inflammation.

Omega-3 fatty acids are a type of unsaturated fatty acid which may reduce inflammation throughout the body. This inflammation could otherwise damage blood vessels, which leads to an increased risk in heart disease. Omega-3s can reduce triglycerides, lower blood pressure, and reduce blood clotting.

DHA is the most abundant Omega-3 found in the brain, and is important in maintaining proper cell structure and function. Our brain contains over 100 billion neurons, and a daily intake of Omega-3s, specifically DHA, may be essential to optimal brain health.

Omega-3s can be used as a weapon against sore joints, arthritis, and other types of joint pain. The anti-inflammatory properties found in Omega-3s can allow our joints to have more mobility and less stiffness.

Lysi Cod Liver Oil is the most balanced product in our diverse product portfolio. This is the case because it contains Omega-3s EPA and DHA, but also contain vitamins A, D, and E. If you are looking for a balanced, fresh tasting, efficient fish oil supplement which is sustainably sourced, refined, and bottled in Iceland, then you are at the right place!

Yes! Look for Omega-3 products with plenty of DHA. DHA is critical to the brain and eye development of children. This is why you see infant formula fortified with DHA, and why many pregnant and breastfeeding women are encouraged by their doctors to take it. So, whether you are pregnant or blessed with a toddler, Omega-3s are an excellent choice! Consult with your physician about when your child should begin taking Omega-3s, and then try our Junior Fish Oil, which is specifically designed with your kinds in mind!

Fish oil is one of the safest dietary supplements we can take. Lysi products contain no gluten or milk derivatives, so it can fit a wide variety of pallets and diets.

With that being said, make sure that you consult with your healthcare practitioner before taking more than the recommended daily dosage. While our products can reduce blood clotting, taking too many Omega-3s while taking other blood thinners can result in regular cuts abnormally bleeding.

Pioneering Process

Established in 1938, Lysi is the world’s largest producer of marine oils for human consumption and an original pioneer of fish oil production. We pride ourselves in delivering high quality products made with the best materials available and produced in accordance with strict international standards. We are very excited to be introducing a brand to US consumers which has been internationally adored for generations.

At the heart of what we do is the fish oil production process. Our unique process was first introduced by the Olafsson brothers in the 1940s, and laid the foundation for the highly specialized production process we see today. Our high-tech processing plants are equipped with specialized production units that facilitate different stages of this process. Our 5 step process is as follows:

  1. Neutralization- The oil is neutralized by removing free fatty acids
  2. Winterization- High melting triglycerides are removed by cooling the oil and filtering
  3. Distillation- The oil is stripped of contaminants by distillation under ultra high vacuum and elevated temperature
  4. Bleaching- Pigments and contaminants are removed by the use of absorbents
  5. Deodorization- Volatile components are removed with steam injection under vacuum and high temperature conditions

Lysi fish oil products are unique in their use of the highest quality raw materials from Iceland. Fish from pure Icelandic waters and a network of trusted suppliers ensure our high standards. Lysi fish oils also meet official regulations regarding environmental contaminants and are available in accordance with all major governmental pharmacopoeias. With advanced extraction processes placing Lysi at the forefront of global fish oil processing, all our products are of the highest quality possible.

Sustainable Sourcing

We believe in safeguarding our environment responsibly in order to protect it for future generations. This means that, from sea to bottle, everything we do is done in accordance with our commitment to sustainability. All of our Icelandic fish oil must be sourced from wild fisheries certified by the Icelandic Responsible Fisheries (IRF). This program requires participating companies to adopt effective legal and administrative systems that prevent overfishing and comply with the strictest international requirements of the United Nations Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Fun fact: There are more cod in the cold waters of Iceland now than when we began operating in 1938.

There are several international certifications of which we are very proud to hold:

Iceland Responsible Fisheries (IRF)

Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s (GOED)

Friend of the Sea

Certified Sustainable Seafood (MSC)

Form & Functionality

While we provide very high-grade capsules which are convenient to take, we always ask those who want to start their #lysilife to try our liquid products first. Why? It’s fairly simple. Liquid is FAR superior to your health. Not only do our liquids contain much higher doses of EPA and DHA than most capsules, but your body can also absorb it more easily. Our bodies can only absorb roughly 45%-55% of the nutritious benefits of a capsule, whereas we can process 98% of the benefits in liquid form.

In terms of absorption, liquid is far superior to capsules. Just make sure you refrigerate after opening.

It tastes amazing, duh!

On a serious note, there are specific reasons why our cod liver oil may taste superior to others.

First, freshness is key. All of our cod liver oil is sourced, refined, and bottled in Iceland. This means that while other oils may be sitting on a boat or the back of a truck for weeks at a time, our oils are being carefully sourced and refined in a much shorter time span.

Second, our process removes any fishy taste. We have been in this business for a long time, and our industry know-how allows us to understand exactly how fish oils must be handled to maximize taste and effectiveness. Our ISO-9001 certified facilities give us an optimal setting to ensure that our process is unrivaled in effectiveness and efficiency.

Third, our natural flavors allow for a pleasant experience on your palate. We offer lemon and lemon-mint flavors for oils, both of which aid the crisp, clean finish the oil leaves in your mouth.

We unashamedly believe that we produce the freshest, best tasting Omega-3s on the planet, and trust that you will understand this after giving us a try!

The problem: If your Omega-3 supplements are hard for your body to digest, then it creates excess gas which can lead to burping. Capsules, while convenient, can be much more difficult for the body to absorb and digest than liquid.

The solution: In order to minimize fish burps and nasty aftertaste, you need to be taking a high quality Omega-3 product. This ensures that the purity of the oil is at optimal levels, and that contaminants have been carefully removed. So, start taking Lysi, and say goodbye to your nasty, fishy burps!

Traditionally, our liquid Omega-3s have been taken straight from a spoon. While this may be a preferred method for some, there are other great ways to take Lysi. If you’re looking for something new, try mixing it in a smoothie or tossing it on a salad.

When taking our liquids, please note that once you open the seal, you need to place it in your refrigerator. Our oils are best when consumed 60 days after of opening.

The recommended daily serving size of Lysi Omega-3 liquids is 1 teaspoon. Each teaspoon contains 1100mg – 1600mg of Omega-3s, as well as vitamins A, D, and E. Consult with your health practitioner before exceeding the recommended daily dose.

We recommend taking fish oil during a meal, preferably not directly before your workout. High intensity workouts directly after taking Omega-3s can lead to indigestion, so give yourself time to digest your Lysi products before hitting the gym.
